Re:          Action on requests for financial assistance

At the 3/9/04 Executive Committee meeting, members initially considered a few requests that have come to the GWDC from Local Workforce Councils for “technical assistance”.  Following is a brief summary of each.  Staff recommends support for each of these requests. 

  1. Ramsey County Local Workforce Investment Board – New request to GWDC to support participation in national “Workforce Innovators Network” hosted by the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce.             Request $9,000 
  1. Duluth Local Workforce Council --  “Northland Works” community awareness initiative aimed at getting emerging and incumbent workers focused on career opportunities in Duluth area (expanding to Northeast and NW Wisconsin CEP areas as appropriate).  Per previous discussion, Duluth has approached leaders in Superior Wisconsin and support from that region is likely to be forthcoming as part of the effort.        Request $15,000 
  1. Stearns-Benton Employment Training Council –  Request sponsorship for 11/12/04 regional summit for workforce and economic development.     Request $5,000.
