The Older Workers Workgroup is one of four policy development committees convened by the GWDC to develop recommendations for the Council's 2011 Policy Advisory.
Workgroup Charge:
The goal of the Older Workers Workgroup is to propose policy recommendations that support, encourage and retain aging workers. The primary objective of these policy recommendations is to develop public policy support for extending the work-like of Minnesota’s aging labor force.
Policy Objectives: The Workgroup’s draft policy recommendations focus on:
Providing continuous access to training for all individual workers through traditional and non-traditional types of education programs and opportunities;
Helping employers to recognize the critical role and return-on-investment of human resource policies, work environment, and other employment practices that focus on retaining, supporting and encouraging aging workers to continue to work; and
The state’s role to identify, capture and acknowledge attitudes regarding aging workers and elevate awareness levels of policy-makers, employers, individuals and grant-makers of our culture bias toward aging workers by promoting attitudes and values that embrace the abilities of aging individuals as engaged, productive, and essential part of the labor force.
